About the Studio
James Carter Studio and School of Jewelry Arts is located in historic Carr Mill Mall in Carrboro, NC.
Carrboro is adjacent to Chapel Hill in central North Carolina. Both are thriving small communities known for energy and diversity.
Carr Mill Mall is a renovated mid nineteenth century cotton mill with red brick walls, high ceilings and soaring windows.
In addition to the James Carter Studio, Carr Mill Mall houses restaurants and retail spaces.
Inside James Carter Studio are individual student jeweler’s benches. Each well-lit bench has its own Smith Little oxygen/propane torch, a Fordham flex shaft, a charcoal block and tripod solder station, and a selection of hand tools. Community tools and equipment include sanders, polishers, a twelve-inch shear, a rolling mill, draw plates, anvils, stakes, a drill press, and a digital kiln for cloisonne production.
