James Carter brings his knowledge and passion to the classroom for the benefit of his students. His career experiences allow him to teach not only the time-honored technical skills of art jewelry fabrication but also the development of the student artist’s personal vision.

Having spent time in academia, both as a student and as an instructor, James Carter values the evolution of each individual’s personal style and expression while years of supporting himself as a studio jewelry artist have taught him industry lessons in marketing, presentation and production.

At the James Carter School of Jewelry Arts preparation of precious metal, tool selection and proper craft techniques are stressed for each skills demonstration and project. Individuality of expression is encouraged for every student and open discussion of the economics of the art jewelry market including the costs of metals, gemstones, supplies and equipment is part of the educational experience.
