LIVE ONLINE CLASSES - Jewelry Making

James Carter is teaching online Zoom classes through established art schools nationwide. Below is the schedule of the courses offered at the different schools. Follow the links to learn more about the individual classes and purchase courses through that school’s webpage.

February 1 & February 8, 2025

11:00am-1:00pm

Double-Sided Frame Pendant for Showcasing Heat-Sensitive Pieces

In this class, we will fabricate two identical frames to create a double-sided pendant, perfect for mounting heat-sensitive pieces such as enamels, reticulated metal, or any design you choose to showcase.

Techniques include sawing, soldering, and riveting.

This is an intermediate to advanced class, so students should already have a solid understanding of basic fabrication skills.

This individual class takes place over two dates.

March 8, March 22, & March 29, 2025

3:00pm-5:00pm

Cloisonné Beads

Ever since he was challenged as an undergrad to bring dimension to his work, James Carter has been a fan of beads. This class is designed to take your skills in Cloisonné enameling up a notch or two. We will start with a copper coupling. From there, we will explore adding Cloisonné wire designs, foiling, and enameling to a 360-degree surface. Polishing and finishing will complete the project.

This is an intermediate to advanced enameling course. Experience in the basics of enameling and Cloisonné is needed.

This individual class takes place over three dates.

April 18 & April 25, 2025

3:00pm-5:00pm

End Caps for Cloisonné Beads

A piece of enamel doesn’t stand alone. In this class, we will cover the fabrication of end caps for cloisonne beads. We will cover two techniques for end caps. The main design is a press-fit cold connection, and even though this is considered an intermediate difficulty, precision and craftsmanship will be paramount. The second design is a more advanced design in which the end caps will be screwed together. This second design is offered purely as a demonstration.

The primary project of the class will be the simpler design, so students should have basic fabrication skills of soldering and sawing for this project.

This individual class takes place over two dates.
